Academic advisors have knowledge and suggestions to share; they do not know your interests, talents, and plans for the future.
Attend a Transfer Tuesday
Jump-start your IUPUI advising experience by attending a Transfer Tuesday before your Transfer Student Orientation! Transfer Tuesdays are online webinars that guide you through how to read your transfer credit report, how to resolve undistributed credit, and toward advising resources you can use to prepare for your orientation advising appointment. Visit welcome.iupui.edu to register!
Find the degree map for your major(s) and prepare a list of course ideas and questions that you would like to present to the advisors. It is essential that you think about these things and bring all of these materials with you to orientation. This will ensure you are prepared for your orientation advising session.
Visit the IUPUI degree maps search tool to learn more about programs that interest you.
What to Expect from Meeting with the Academic Advisor
After you complete a Transfer Tuesday and orientation, you will meet one-on-one with an academic advisor, who will help you craft a balanced and interesting semester class schedule. During your advising session, the academic advisor will provide information to support you through your first semester at IUPUI and will give you ways to enhance your degree outside of the classroom. In addition, the academic advisor will go more in depth about transfer credits and degree requirements to help you continue thinking about your path to graduation.
